Gay Ao Nang

Ao Nang is the hub for many tourist attractions in Thailand's most beautiful province: Krabi.
The distance to Krabi Airport is 30 km. Boats to the world famous islands in Phang Nga Bay start in Ao Nang.
Ao Nang has no go-go-bars, no travestite shows, no x-rated shows like Bangkok and Phatthaya. It has no gay area like Patong.
Ao Nang attracts people who are interested in the beauty of its nature more than in carnal pleasures.
Nevertheless there is some gay life in Ao Nang. It is growing and this website wants to keep up with all new developments.

Gay Bars

The first gay bar that was opened in Ao Nang was the Rainbow Bar. It was forced to relocate to an unattractive place far from the beach. The owner had to close the bar soon after the relocation. He hopes to open again later, after he has found a better place for the bar.
In January 2006 a new bar was opened at the old location of the Rainbow Bar: Male Bonding. It suffered from neglect by its owner. In January 2007 the staff of the bar took over (a management buy-out) under a new name: 69 Bar.
Since then it has become as popular as the old Rainbow Bar. The bar has been rebuilt completely. It has even a small stage for an occasional show. The staff is enthousiastic and friendly. They are at their best when they start dancing Thai Style.

The second gay bar is Choke Dee Bar in the entertainment soi opposite McDonald's. They have less staff available for off-ing. It has a disadvantage of being surrounded by girlie bars. It offers little privacy.

Gay Accomodation

There is no need for gay accomodation in Ao Nang. The gay Baht is welcome in every hotel. You will notice that many of the attendants in hotels and restaurants are gay themselves.
There is one gay hotel in Ao Nang: it is the low budget Ao Nang Pearl.

Gay Friends

Many gay boys walk around in Ao Nang, looking for gay friends. A lot of them originate from the North and Northeast of Thailand. They came to the South to find a job in the tourist industry. They also moved here to escape from the social control of their rural environment, hoping to pursue the gay lifestyle that is impossible in a small village with a lot of gossip.
They really like to meet foreigners. Some like to have a foreigner-friend, just for friendship. Some would like a LTR with a foreigner. Some would like to do no more than showing you around and spend some time together just talking. You would have to ask them about their wishes.
